Introducing Me: Amanda
Hello! I’m Amanda, the Director of Operations at H2H. I plan everything from our day-to-day tasks to special projects to long term goals! I make sure that everything is going according to plan and that we’re growing everyday. (If anyone asks, my guardian angels are Asana, Notion, and Google Calendar.) I also take part in editing our videos, some graphics, and other creative media!
I’m not exaggerating when I say that starting this organization is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I never would’ve predicted that Hearts to Heroes would be where it is today if someone had asked me back in May 2020, when Haley, Delaney, and I had spent an all-nighter excitedly brainstorming what we would do. I’m so proud that our solid team of passionate, driven people has been able to change so many lives and bring so many smiles.
Over the past year or so, I’ve repeatedly been faced with the same lesson of simply appreciating everything and anything. While it sounds really vague and almost obvious, this is something that took me quite a long time to truly digest. We all spend so much time worrying about what could be, should be, or would be that we forget what’s right in front of us. When Armita, our Communications Director, first told me that if we look around, we’d find helpers everywhere, I really did look, and I really did find incredible, supportive people at my side. It doesn’t have to be an essential worker–it doesn’t have to be a person at all, because many of us are also lucky to have access to an internet connection, clean water, or a roof over our heads. We must never forget that!
Disney’s Soul is a movie that permanently resides in my heart. It teaches a very similar lesson. As ridiculous as it may sound, I find the fact that I can taste pizza, listen to people sing, feel the wind, smell, speak, and my plain consciousness so incredibly beautiful. Mankind may be struck with floods of misfortune and pain and hardships, but it is also blessed with beautiful things like love and emotion and the simple fact that there are people around you who care about you, wish the best for you, pray for you. The truth is, life is short and delicate. I don’t want to waste a single minute of my life disregarding the elegance of the world. So I just hope that whoever is reading this can also take some time to appreciate everything and everyone in their life. Never, ever take anything for granted.
