Introducing Me: Sanika
Hello, my name is Sanika, and I am one of the Fundraising Directors at Hearts to Heroes this year! As a Fundraising Director, I am in charge of looking into sponsorship opportunities and conducting fundraisers that help spread the word about all of the work that Hearts to Heroes does, and gets us more resources so that we can continue helping local community heroes.
My Hearts to Heroes journey began last Christmas, when I signed up to make holiday cards for families that were struggling because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. For me, Chirstmastime has always been my favorite time of the year, ever since I was a little kid. As a child, I would always get swept up by the magic of Christmas. Everything would always feel so new, and so exciting, the sights, the smells, and the sounds would always feel so magical and bring me a strong sense of nostalgia, very likely the reason I have an obsession with Christmas Markets. Therefore, the opportunity to help others have a magical holiday season, particularly those who were struggling, was something that I could never pass up.
After that, I continued volunteering with Hearts to Heroes throughout the year, and continued to be blown away by the amazing amount of work that they were doing to help others, particularly those who work to serve the community, and people in need. As the youngest member on the Hearts to Heroes Board this year, I am very excited to bring new perspectives to Hearts to Heroes, and work to make it an even more amazing organization.
One of my biggest life philosophies is that everyone has a journey, and everyone has a story to tell. I believe that everyone gets their happy ending eventually, regardless of how difficult their story may be. I also don’t believe that anyone should hide any part of their story, as everything we have been through is a critical part of who we are, a stepping stone towards our fairytale ending. Isn’t it just so magical that everyone gets their “Happily Ever After”, but just does not know when or where they will find it?
