Introducing Me: Lama
Hello, my name is Lama Ali and I am one of the volunteer directors at Hearts to Heroes this year! I am in charge of putting together the ideas for our volunteer events, sending emails, and being at drop-off and pick-ups, which is honestly my favorite part because I get to see everyone’s faces and interact with volunteers and the community :)
I used to live in Egypt until 2017, when I moved to the United States, specifically Irvine, CA. Since I was a kid, I’ve loved playing soccer at school and with my brother. Ever since I could remember, my favorite soccer player was and still is Messi and I have been absolutely obsessed with him and the way he plays the game. I recently started playing tennis a year ago and I am really enjoying the sport. I also love facetiming people, watching tv shows, and hanging out with my friends.
Hearts to Heroes means a lot to me because I really enjoy helping others and giving back to the community. A lot of people put in a lot of effort and hard work to make our community the way it is and I feel like we should be thanking them and making them feel appreciated in every way possible, which is what I have the ability to do at Hearts to Heroes. To me, there is no better way to spend my free time than to do little things that I know will make someone's day. No matter what it is, little or big, it makes an impact.
Recently, I have been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things, Hearts to Heroes included, and it has shown to be very rewarding. I have found that when I start taking more risks and making more changes to my lifestyle, I am capable of much more than what I think I am capable of. I think that this applies to everyone in that our minds make us think we have certain limits we cannot pass, but with positive self talk, courage, and hard work, you will find yourself doing everything you want to and more.
