Introducing Me: Ivana
Hi! My name is Ivana Siu and I’m one of the fundraising directors at Hearts to Heroes this year. As stated in the title, a fundraising director is responsible for… you guessed it- fundraising! Throughout the year, I will be researching donation and sponsorship opportunities to ensure that our organization has enough resources to run smoothly. I believe that learning how to communicate and contact new people is an important skill to master throughout your life. I’ve had experience going door to door, sending email after email; although many businesses have rejected or ignored my request, it’s always satisfying to finally see a business that is willing to offer their support.
I started my Hearts to Heroes journey during freshman year, ever since I saw their booth at my school’s club fair. I decided to join Hearts to Heroes because I realized that it was an amazing opportunity to connect with my friends while also meeting new people in the club. My favorite part of Hearts to Heroes is being able to directly give back to the community around me.
Outside of Hearts to Heroes, one of my main hobbies is playing the piano. One of the reasons why I enjoy playing piano so much is because music is a universal language. No matter what language you speak or where you come from, it unites people and brings them to a place of serenity. For me, music is an escape from reality. I’m interested in anything and everything about music… especially Taylor Swift. If you’re a swiftie, please contact me immediately so we can talk about our favorite songs from her iconic albums.
I love being a part of Hearts to Heroes because their mission statement aligns with many of my personal values and beliefs. One lesson that I’ve learned from the pandemic is that you never know what someone is going through. After being isolated in our houses for so long, it’s become extremely difficult to open up to the people around us, even our closest family members and friends. As we slowly transitioned back to a somewhat normal life, I’ve learned that it is important to always have something to look forward to, whether it be something as little as a relaxing shower, or even an upcoming concert from your favorite artist. While it’s impossible to make everyday the best day possible, I know that I can make someone’s day a little better through a simple compliment or even a personal note or card. Being a part of Hearts to Heroes allows me to help make a random person’s day a little bit better and ultimately express my gratitude for their hard work every day, and I hope that you’ll take advantage of any opportunity that you have to express your appreciation and make someone’s day a tiny bit brighter.
