Introducing Me: Abigail

Hi everyone, my name is Abigail Shih and I’m the secretary at Hearts 2 Heroes. I’m in charge of organizing all of the newsletters that come up. I love to see the care packages come to life and I hope that every person in the world knows there is someone out there thinking of them and wishing them the best.

I started in Hearts to Heroes as a volunteer my freshman year, and I would create cards for healthcare workers every round that we had. I still remember the first drop off where I was scared of upperclassmen and worried about if my cards were cute enough. Long story short, the drop offs were successful and I saw my cards in the Instagram posts. I was so proud of myself, but also so happy that my work was being used to help others and make them feel less alone. Now, as the secretary AND an upperclassmen, the rounds are not only in-person, but also more casual and fun.

I chose to apply as a secretary because I’m an organization freak, but also so I would have the opportunity to include healthcare information in the newsletter. The service sector is very important and even more, the healthcare industry is. We rely on these heroes everyday, but one thing we can do to keep ourselves safe is to know what’s going on. After all, knowledge is power. 

A fun fact about me is that I love learning languages and I know 4 different languages. I think it’s really interesting how different languages work and how idioms work in different ways. Not only are the literal words interesting, but the cultures are even cooler. I love music and dance from different cultures such as the reggaeton and the bachata.
